Am I Getting Panic Attacks On The Plane?
61
I hate flying on a trip that lasts more than 1 hour or so because after sitting in a confined space for that long surrounded by other people sitting around me and no place to go, I start to feel sort of claustrophobic and then the dreaded panic attack or anxiety attack begins.
A movie may help if it's really really good to distract me, but 9 times out of 10 it's something I've already seen. Getting meals used to help, but they don't serve them anymore!
So there I am sitting...no place to go. I look out the window, I try to read, I listen to music but soon I just cannot sit still. My legs get the 'restless leg syndrome' and I have to get up onto my feet. I walk to the back of the plane, go to the restroom, sit back down again.
I can't rid the feeling of feeling trapped. I get so worked up that my heart is pounding. I order a good strong drink. It has no effect on me what so ever! Soon I start to get nautious and inevitablly, I peuk in the barf bag! It's absolutely terrible! The worse feeling ever!
If the flight is at night, forget about it! It's twice as bad if I can't look out the window so if it's dark outside I can't look out at the horizon which makes it even worse.
Do you have a similar situation with anxiety or panic attack? Aside from popping valium, have you found anything that helps you?
